Abstract

A Community Conversation on the Occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Great March on Washington and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s I Have a Dream Speech Suggested donation $10

Fifty years ago, on August 28, 1963, hundreds of thousands of people marched for civil and economic rights under the theme "jobs and freedom." Do you remember the March? Were you there?

One of the largest demonstrations for human rights in United States' history, it was the occasion on which Dr. King delivered his passionate I Have a Dream speech. To commemorate this historic moment, the Rothko Chapel convenes a community conversation on the current state of MLK's dream.

What do you think of the state of Dr. King's dream for the beloved community in Houston, and the United States? What can we do individually and collectively to support the dream? Do we need a new dream?

Moderated by nationally recognized diversity trainer and author, Tracy Brown, this is an opportunity to collectively reflect on our deepest aspirations. The evening begins by listening to Dr. King's historic address in full and is followed by a facilitated discussion that draws on Tracy Brown's extensive professional experience leading transformational conversations.

All are welcome. A reception on the plaza follows the program.

Please note, Dr. King's speech will also play throughout the day at 10:30am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm, 4:30pm, and 5:30pm.
