Abstract
Member Event, Houston Grand Opera
Performed against the backdrop of Mark Rothko’s majestic canvases, this unique concert explores themes of home, family, and the difficulties faced when divided by borders.
The program includes music from the world’s first Mariachi Opera, Cruzar la Cara de la Luna/To Cross the Face of the Moon, along with classical Spanish and traditional Mariachi songs. Featured performers include vocalists Cecilia Duarte and Vanessa Cerda-Alonzo, guitarist José Pecina and pianists Ana María Otamendi and John Cornelius.'
This collaborative event integrates the Rothko Chapel’s longstanding commitment to human rights and intercultural dialogue with HGOco’s mission to build relationships through stories and music.
Admission is FREE for all Rothko Chapel Members. For non-members, tickets are $40 and include an annual membership. Both programs will be followed by a reception catered by Cuchara, Houston’s Mexico City Bistro.
