Dr. Yossi Chajes, Jewish Tradition
Suggested donation $10
This practice weaves together a selection of contemplative readings and meditations from the classics of Kabbalah within a setting of spiritual chants, some two-hundred years old. Dr. Yossi Chajes is this year's Bunny and Leo Horvitz Scholar-in-Residence at the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC of Houston, as well as an Associate Professor in the Department of Jewish History at the University of Haifa and the director of its Center for the Study of Jewish Cultures. His book, Between Worlds: Dybbuks, Exorcists, and Early Modern Judaism (2003) was listed by the Wall Street Journal in 2013 as among the top five books ever written on spirit possession. Yossi was also a student and accompanist of R. Shlomo Carlebach for many years, and has been invited by communities around the world to teach and to lead inspirational, musical services. The series is co-sponsored by Ligmincha Texas Institute, The Jung Center of Houston, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, and the Rothko Chapel.
