Houston Interfaith Thanksgiving Service
The 22nd Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service
Thursday, November 16, 2006, at 7:30 PM
The Rothko Chapel presents the 22nd annual Houston Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, an event celebrating Thanksgiving and bringing together representatives of the many religious traditions practiced in the Greater Houston area to give prayerful thanks around a theme (not yet determined). Participants include representatives from Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism, and the Zoroastrian religion. This was the first widely inclusive religious prayer event to be held in the city. It was first held by the interreligious community in response to the bombing of a mosque in 1984. Fortunately, the perpetrators were apprehended, tried, convicted, and incarcerated.
