Abstract

Carla Cooper Christian Meditation Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at 12:00 pm

Carla Cooper has been a member of the World Community for Christian Mediation since 1996 and most recently served as chair of the international Guiding Board and president of the John Main Institute. She has been a frequent teacher on the practice of contemplative prayer within the Christian tradition and the extent to which the discipline of meditation is an antidote to fundamentalism and a beneficial pursuit in an increasingly violent and sectarian world. She received her Ph.D in literature and philosophy from Purdue University in 1980 and has 25 years of experience in higher education and health care. From 1994 to 2005, she served as senior vice president of St Luke's Episcopal Health System and CEO of Episcopal Health Charities, one of the area's most innovative grantmakers focused on empowering the underserved.
