Rothko Chapel: In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Rothko Chapel in Houston, which is filled with a suite of paintings by the artist Mark Rothko, Tyshawn Sorey has been commisseioned to create a new work inspired by, and played in, the space. Sorey is also looking to the meditative "Rothko Chapel" (1971) by Morton Feldman, who is one of his majkor compositional influences, and will echo its instrumentation - soprano, alto, mixed cchoir, percussion, viola and celesta - in his own premiere.
