The 2019 edition of Houston Auto Show opens on Wednesday at the NRG Center.

Bilingual exhibit is designed to introduce biology-based science to the public and inspire future scientists and science-lab leaders in the medical field.

When: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday

Foley Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition

Students from Houston ISD elementary schools will present a short speech in response to the question, “What would Dr. King say to the children of today’s world?”

Funfetti Fridays

Ice skating with a live DJ and colored lights.

MLK Youth Parade and MLK Grande Parade

Parades feature floats and marching bands. This year’s theme will be “It Takes a Village.”

When: Noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday

MATCH Family Fun Day

Event features performances by Schoolhouse Rock from Main Street Theater, Alice presented by Open Dance Project and concerts from Prelude Music. There will also be an appearance by Party Princess Productions, bounce houses, face painters, balloon artists, stilt walkers and chalk artists.

MLK Battle of the Bands Competition

Battle will feature more than 20 nationally acclaimed marching bands from across the country, including the best high school marching bands from Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.

The Original MLK Day Parade

The extravagant and diversified celebration will feature marching bands, decorated floats, dance teams, military and ROTC groups, first responders, city and county officials, and notable organizations from around the world.

MLK Day Audio Installation

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Rothko Chapel will play speeches from his life throughout the day.

Event features a children’s peace march, “I Have a Dream” oratory, film screening, choirs and live music.

Auto show features the latest and most innovative vehicles in addition to technology showcases.

GALVESTON

Yaga’s Chili Quest & Beer Fest

Festival will kick off with a party at Yaga’s Café on Friday, followed by Saturday’s chili sampling and beer tastings alongside live music, a washers tournament, 5K fun run, Jackpot Margarita Contest and merchant walk-about.

THE WOODLANDS

Adventures with Clifford the Big Red Dog

A traveling exhibit, hosted by The Woodlands Children’s Museum. Children will have the opportunity to sort and deliver mail with their favorite characters, order fish and chips in the restaurant, drive a ferry boat, slide down Clifford’s tail, and read about Clifford’s 10 Big Ideas for working together and creating a caring community.
