The first of every December, people across the globe unite and show their support for people living with HIV/AIDS while commemorating those who’ve lost their lives. In the Bayou City, Rothko Chapel will host Twilight Meditation, a free gathering for Houstonians to come together on World AIDS Day.

This event will be a time to reflect and learn, so the community can grasp the scope of the pandemic and continue to respond to this global issue that effects so many.

“We invite the community to join us in showing your support and solidarity with the millions of people living with and impacted by HIV/AIDS,” says Ashley Clemmer, public programs and community engagement director at Rothko Chapel.

Pharmacy technician Robert Munoz of Avenue 360 Health and Wellness, a Houston organization that, amongst other services, provides HIV-related care, will speak before the meditation about the history and current state of the worldwide pandemic. Munoz has been an activist and survivor since 2001, co-founding Houston Area Teen Coalition of Homosexuals (HATCH) and volunteering with AIDS Foundation Houston.

Gabriel Clark, who was diagnosed with HIV in 1981 and currently practices at Insight Meditation Houston, will lead the guided service, followed by a reception on the Chapel’s plaza.

“This event will be a time to reflect and learn, so the community can grasp the scope of the pandemic and continue to respond to this global issue that effects so many,” says Clemmer.
