Day For Night at Post HTX in Downtown Houston on Sunday, December 17, 2017

The second day of the Day for Night festival began without the specter of rain, though that didn't translate into an early turnout. Perhaps festgoers had to dry out a little after a soggy Saturday.

Which is too bad because the early Sunday acts were varied and vibrant even if they pulled fewer fans than performers doing shows the same time a day before.

THE START: For the first full day, Day for Night art went bold, very bold

Shabazz Palaces filled one of those early slots admirably as a dark progressively electronic hip-hop act. Playing the indoor Blue Stage, ex-Digable Planets member Ishmael Butler served up darker rhymes than he did in the '90s but they fit the times. "Youlogy" was both poignant and pointed.
