Sure, it's been raining for more than a minute in Houston. But since the summer season officially starts this weekend — and the weather forecast predicts there will be sunnier days — expect more people to be out and about, looking for some events to enjoy. We've rounded up a handy guide to get you started.

Thursday, June 21

Celebrate the first sunrise of the summer season at Rothko Chapel With summer popping off on Thursday, the Rothko Chapel will celebrate sunrise on the summer solstice with a performance of classical Indian ragas by South Indian classical vocalist Prema Bhat, along with Purnima Bhat on background vocals, and tambura and Maheshwar Ajaykumar on mridangam. This will be followed by a labyrinth walk on the grounds, facilitated by Rothko Chapel Guild founding member Jay Stailey. Sure, it’s happening real early in the morning, but it’s a must for those who want to see the dawn of the first summer day. It starts at 6:20 am.

Noises Off brings the nuttiness to Unity Theatre The minute he saw the backstage madness that went on during a play he wrote in ’70s, playwright Michael Frayn knew another play had to come out of this. And that’s where Noises Off, a knockabout farce that exposes the insanity that goes on during a play’s run, came from. The play even became a 1992 film directed by Peter Bogdanovich, starring Michael Caine, Carol Burnett, the late John Ritter, and Christopher Reeve. The Unity Theatre has been doing its their own bawdy adaptation. Catch all the wackiness before the show closes on July 1. It starts at 7:30 pm. (8 pm Friday and Saturday; 4 pm Sunday).

Ice Cube’s BIG3 basketball league starts hooping Apart from being a gangsta-rap legend and an actor directors call on to play badasses with deadpan comic delivery, Ice Cube has also created a professional, 3-on-3 basketball league with entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz. Called BIG3, this league will have games going on all over the country, including Chicago, Detroit, Miami – and Houston, the first stop in the league’s 2018 season. You’ll see Ghost Ballers take on the 3-Headed Monsters, Killer 3s go up against 3’s Company, Power go toe-to-toe with Ball Hogs and champions Trilogy tussle with Tri-State. It starts at 6:30 pm. (Cube will do a live performance outside the Toyota Center main entrance at 4 pm.)

Dave Chappelle and Jon Stewart get silly in Sugar Land Last year, when Dave Chappelle did a 16-date residency at Radio City Music Hall, Jon Stewart popped up for a surprise stand-up set, in what seemed like an opportunity to flex his comic muscles since it was announced he’d be doing two stand-up specials for HBO. The two must’ve dug doing a night of comedy together: in May, it was announced they’d be doing a tour which will only make stops in three cities: El Paso, Boston, and – thankfully, Houston. Seats are available for the late-night show on Friday. It starts at 10:30 pm.

Take part in a Juneteenth heritage celebration Although Juneteenth, the day that celebrates the 1865 announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas, was on Tuesday, the Juneteenth Heritage Celebration will be taking place on Saturday at the picturesque Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site. There will be exhibits, art displays, church choir performances, food and other things. There will also be discount tour tickets for Independence Hall, Barrington Living History Farm and the Star of the Republic Museum. So, come down and salute the African-American culture & heritage of the Brazos Valley. It starts at 10 am.

“Light in the Window” opens at BLUEorange Contemporary Art Gallery Caitlin G. McCollom is an Austin-based artist who paints with high-flow acrylic on Yupo, a synthetic Japanese paper that repels water. For “Light in the Window,” her latest exhibit at BLUEorange Contemporary Art Gallery, McCollom has collected 20 original paintings which "expresses solitary moments of spiritual communion” and “explores the moment when light floods through a window.” The exhibit kicks off with a opening reception. After that, it will be on display through August 4, which will close with an artist talk from McCollom herself. It starts at 6 pm.

Eden MacAdam-Somer gets to fiddling Don’t ever say a violin can’t take you anywhere these days — just ask Eden MacAdam Somer. As a soloist, she has played violin with symphony and chamber orchestras, jazz and swing bands, and Eastern-European and American folk ensembles. As one-half of the contemporary duo Notorious, she has toured all over the U.S. as well as India, Iceland, the U.K., and Afghanistan. And, this weekend, she’ll be the guest performer at the Moores School of Music’s Fredell Lack Legacy Violin Series recital. It starts at 2:30 pm.

Bullitt closes out the “Jazz on Film” series at the MFAH If you haven’t seen the 1968 movie Bullitt, you should. It’s a bad movie — and we mean that in the bad-meaning-good movie. This police thriller stars the eternally cool Steve McQueen as the titular, San Francisco police lieutenant whose job of protecting a mob informant becomes complicated, especially when hitmen enter the picture. While this movie is notable for having one of the most influential car-chase scenes in movie history, it also has a cucumber-cool score by Lalo Schifrin, which explains why it’s closing out the MFAH’s “Jazz on Film” series. It starts at 5 pm.
