All five nominees of the 2019 BelgianArtPrize withdrew from the contest following a public petition criticizing the all-male shortlist.
The Rothko Chapel in Houston was vandalized last Friday morning. Paint was poured into a reflecting pool surrounding Barnett Newman’s “The Broken Obelisk” (1963–67), a sculpture dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr., while leaflets reading “it’s okay to be white” were left scattered across the Chapel’s grounds. Police are currently investigating the incident.
Royal Mail issued six new stamps to mark the 250th anniversary of the Royal Academy of Arts. The designs — all newly commissioned artworks — were created by Norman Ackroyd, Tracey Emin, Grayson Perry, Fiona Rae, Barbara Rae, and Yinka Shonibare.
