Abstract

Copyright Kent. Ilahi is a form of Turkish Musical Music. They are poems set for singing. In the recitation ofhte Ilahi, the listener is most important. The listener must come already prepared, in his heart, to join with the mystical spirit created by the singing of the "hymns". By entering this musical event already sympathetic to teh sounds, listeners and the musicians alike can remove the barrier curtains which separate all people. When the listener persists in listening, he can be transported with the music into a different state, from this material world. The Turkish Mystical Music originated in Khorassan in Trans-Oxania, and together with Mystical Sufi ideas and poetry were transported to Asia Minor in the 13th century. We present here a selection of the masterpieces of Ilahi from the 18th century.
