Speak Truth to Power
Abstract
Speak Truth to Power is a powerful mix of poetry, music and documentary footage dedicated to human rights advocates from more than 40 countries. Taping the show before a distinguished audience at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the all-start cast creates a unique special that includes on-location footage from India and Guatemala, and interviews with leading activists including Oscar Arias, Sister Helen Prejean and Harry Wu. Musical offerings included appearances by singer-songwriter Jackson Browne and South African jazz master Hugh Masekala. The program, part of an initiative to draw attention to the ongoing battle for human rights, features the premiere of a new work, “Speak Truth to Power: Voices from Beyond the Dark,” by poet, playwright and activist Ariel Dorfman.
