Abstract
The Other Side of Israel: My Journey Across the Jewish-Arab Divide
Susan Nathan
Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at 7:00 PM
*Please note this event will not be held at The Rothko Chapel.
While living in Tel Aviv for four years, Susan Nathan became increasingly concerned about the Israeli government's systematic discrimination against the Arab-Israeli citizens. Against all the advice of her friends, she decided to move to the town of Tamra in northern Israel in 2003 and live as the only Jew in the town of 30,000 Arabs. Her book, The Other Side of Israel: My Journey Across the Jewish-Arab Divide, describes with warmth and compassion the obstacles faced by the one million plus second-class, Arab citizens of "the only true democracy in the Middle East." She was in northern Israel and survived the recent 30 days of rocket attacks by Hezbollah.
Susan Nathan will speak in The Great Hall at Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Avenue. Admission is complimentary; however, an RSVP intention is appreciated. Please call 713-590-3333.
This program is co-sponsored by The Boniuk Center for Religious Tolerance at Rice University, Bigid's Place, and The Rothko Chapel.
