Film Screening Presented in partnership with the Menil Collection

Enjoy a truly magical night of listening to Barnett Newman's last interview while sitting beside his Broken Obelisk on the Rothko Chapel plaza. Emile de Antonio’s 1973 film traces the genesis of Abstract Expressionism through conversations with the legendary figures who redefined New York’s post-war art world. Barnett Newman is at the center of this collective portrait which includes Rauschenberg, de Kooning, Warhol, Stella, and Jasper Johns. This 116 minute film is a splendid way to (re)educate yourself about the context in which Newman’s paintings were made.
