Abstract

Experience the inspirational and contemplative sound meditation of Michael Gordon’s Timber in the Rothko Chapel. Performed by six percussionists on amplified 2x4's called a simantra, an instrument used in Eastern Orthodox liturgical services, the patterns in the music subtly change and evolve, much the colors in Mark Rothko’s paintings. Performers include percussionists Brandon Bell, Craig Hauschildt, Luke Hubley, Graeme Francis, Matthew McClung, and Neil Sisauyhoat, marking the Houston premiere of this work.
