Abstract
bserve the silence of the Rothko Chapel filling with the sound of sacred music, both medieval and modern. New York-based music chamber group LoadBang performs Guillaume de Machaut's 15th century masterpiece “Misse de Nostre Dame” interwoven with composer and group member Andy Kozar’s modern interpretation of the piece titled “Mass.” While Machaut’s music is the epitome of religious music, Kozar’s interpretation reflects on the loss of his Catholic faith as well as honors the place that sacred music holds as a cornerstone of Western musical tradition. Comprised of bass clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and baritone voice, LoadBang has earned considerable praise, including being called “inventive” by the New York Times and a “formidable new-music force” by TimeOutNY. A CD sale and reception follow the program.
