Abstract

Jerry Ruhl, Ph.D., Modern Meditation

“Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone – we find it with another.” This quote from Thomas Merton points toward a neglected aspect of meditation, that it is always relational. Consciously or unconsciously we yearn for enduring, supportive, loving attachment and relationship with others, with nature, and with God. We become fully realized in order to be more available for relationship, not the other way around. Jerry M. Ruhl, Ph.D. is a psychologist, lecturer, author, and Executive Director of the Jung Center. The series is co-sponsored by Ligmincha Texas Institute, The Jung Center of Houston, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the Rothko Chapel.
