Jeff Talman and Dr. Daniel Huber

To celebrate the spring equinox, the Rothko Chapel shimmers with the sound of the sun in a multi-channel sound composition Moments from the Sun created by Jeff Talman in collaboration with astrophysicist Dr. Daniel Huber. Recordings of the sun in the Chapel play throughout the day, culminating with the final performance and a discussion with Mr. Talman and Dr. Huber in the evening. Jeff Talman is a sound artist and composer who has created sound installations throughout the world. Cited by Oxford University as a ‘pioneer of the use of resonance in artworks,’ his major achievement is the extended exploration of reflexive resonance, a process he developed in which the ambient resonance of an installation site becomes an installation’s sole sound source. His work has been featured on NPR, and covered in the New York Times and Wired Magazine. Dr. Daniel Huber is a research scientist at NASA's Ames Research Center, and his main area of research is the understanding of the structure and evolution of stars, as well as the characterization of planets found around other stars. His work has been published in internationally renowned magazines including Nature, Science, and The Astrophysical Journal. A reception on the plaza will follow the program.
