Abstract
Losar, or the Tibetan New Year, begins on March 2nd and marks the Year of the Wood Horse. To celebrate, The Ligmincha Bon-Buddhist Center for Meditative and Healing Arts, Dawn Mountain Tibetan Temple, and the Houston Zen Center come together on the plaza to pray and meditate together. The celebration begins with the Sang Chod, or Smoke Offering, a ritual traditionally to begin the Tibetan lunar calendar year, followed by a meditation with mantra, and the traditional zen ringing of the bowl. Participants are invited to cleanse themselves of negativities and offer good intentions as the smoke rises, find a calm and aware state of mind, that we can share individually and collectively with all sentient beings.
