Abstract
Gar Alperovitz, Ph.D. with David Benson
Suggested donation $10
What does staggering income inequality mean for the future of America’s economy, and capitalism in general? Is there an economic model that would more equitably distribute wealth? What type of institutional transformation would need to occur for such a model to develop? Author and activist Gar Alperovitz, Ph.D. discusses these questions and more with local expert David Benson. Dr. Alperovitz, Lionel R. Bauman Professor of Political Economy at the University of Maryland, is co-founder of the Democracy Collaborative. He has served as a legislative director in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, and as a special assistant in the Department of State, and is widely recognized as a leading advocate and theorist in the movement to democratize wealth and build a new, more sustainable and more community-focused economy. His most recent books are What Then Must We Do? Straight Talk About the Next American Revolution and America Beyond Capitalism. David Benson is the Director of Programs and Special Projects in the Office of the Commissioner - Harris County Precinct One. A book signing and reception on the plaza follows the program.
