Abstract
Be the Change You Want to See in the World
The Healer's Council: Matthieu Ricard
Wednesday, June 18 at 5:30 p.m.
Matthieu Ricard, French biologist and Buddhist monk, will look at how we can create a more compassionate society, one of humanity’s most pressing challenges. Creating change begins with the personal efforts to change oneself - the main focus of the Buddhist approach to “transforming oneself to help transform the world.”
The goal of The Healers Council is to create a respectful forum where healers from different traditions can come together to discuss the spiritual and philosophical foundations of their tradition with scholars and scientists working in allopathic medicine. In particular, The Council is interested in exploring the relevance of the scientific method for understanding other healing traditions as well as what role these healing practices can, and should play, in modern healthcare.
Each meeting of the Council includes a presentation from a healer recognized as a master in his/her tradition followed by a dialogue with a panel of scholars as well as members of the audience.
The Healer's Council is sponsored by The Institute for Religion and Health and the Metanexus Institute.
