Empathy and the Rule of Law at Guantanamo

Marc Falkoff, attorney for 17 Yemeni prisoners at Guantanamo, will discuss their situation at the detention camp. Fewer than half the prisoners are accused of committing hostile acts against the United States or its allies. During ten trips to the prison he collected Poems from Guantanamo: The Detainees Speak.
Falkoff is assistant professor at the Northern Illinois University College of Law, Chicago, where he teaches courses in criminal law, criminal procedure and habeas corpus. He has also taught courses in post-conviction remedies and prisoners' rights at Brooklyn Law School. He is a graduate of Columbia Law School, where he was Articles Editor for the Columbia Law Review and a James Kent Scholar. He holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from Brandeis University, an M.A. from the University of Michigan, and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
