Abstract
Ten dancers from San Juan Pueblo shared their celebrative dance tradition at two outdoor performances followed by an interactive question and answer session. The first performance was followed by Dancing from the Heart, a recent documentary focused on the San Juan Pueblo culture
“When we dance, we’re sending prayers that are going all over the world. We hope that there will be peace among all people. The way that we’re going to get strong is by standing together as one. We were all put on this earth by our Creator, and we should work together as people.”
–Andrew Garcia , Ohkay Owingeh (the former San Juan) Pueblo, New Mexico
Andrew Garcia and his family group of traditional Pueblo dancers have traveled to many parts of the globe–including India, Brazil, Spain, Canada, Mexico and the U.S. coast to coast–carrying their messages of good will and cultural exchange, and performing the harmonious dances that are blessings and prayers for the well-being of the whole world.
